Knitter's Review
August 22, 2002

a perfect ball of yarn sprouts a flowerWhat a wonderful bunch you are. Thanks for taking the time to add your feedback to our editorial suggestion box.

While I doubt I'll be able to ship each of you a pound of chocolate every week (at least not yet!), I can follow through on many of your other suggestions. I'll keep the suggestion box open a while longer for any more ideas you may have.

New This Week
I find it interesting that, in a craft so driven by tactile pleasures and visual delights, our biggest-selling ball winder is made of bland white plastic. In this week's tool review, I look at why we keep buying these ball winders and discuss whether you should consider investing in one yourself.

Calling All Knitters
Afghans for Afghans is working hard to reach a September 10th deadline for shipping handknit winter woolens to displaced Afghan families. There may not be enough time to whip up an afghan or sweater by then, but you can also send them hats, mittens, or socks.

Afghans for Afghans is a humanitarian and educational people-to-people project that is receiving transport assistance from the American Friends Service Committee and World Concern relief agencies.

If you have the time to help, learn more about what they need and where to send it by going to the Afghans for Afghans Web site.

What should a newcomer know about sock-of-the-month clubs? Share your advice.

August Prize
Only one more week before our subscriber drawing for a 1.5-pound box of Scharffen Berger chocolate. Cross those fingers!

On Your Mark, Get Set...
Go! To our first annual Knitter's Review Weekend Retreat this November. Learn more.

Happy knitting, and I'll chat with you in the forums.
