Knitter's Review
May 15, 2003

blueberries and angora, a heavenly blendAlthough its population barely reaches the one million mark, Maine continues to produce a surprising number of people who are doing exciting things in knitting.

Interweave Press has chosen knitwear designer and author Pam Allen as the new editor of Interweave Knits. She replaces Melanie Falick, who has moved to New York City to work in book publishing.

Allen, featured in Falick's Knitting in America and author of Knitting for Dummies, will telecommute from the beautiful coastal town of Camden.

Further down the coast, knitwear designer, editor, and author Hélène Rush now heads up the yarn company Knit One, Crochet Too. She has moved its operations to Windham, Maine, and is already making her mark with fresh new designs and yarns.

These are just two more reasons to brave the interstates and visit Maine this summer!

New This Week
Fiber festivals offer an entirely different perspective on knitting than you get from the average yarn shop. The grandmother of fiber festivals took place two weeks ago in Maryland, and a group of Knitter's Review readers met up for a day of friendship and fiber indulgence. Read the report.

Little Bo Peep Finds Her Sheep
Her sister graces our Knitting Lady Pin. Now meet the other sibling, Little Bo Peep. Sporting a sun hat and frilly boots, this cheerful Southern belle leads her sheep on a beaded leash to keep it from straying.

And don't forget to deck your walls with our new poster!

In the Forums
Many knitters give the majority of their projects away as gifts. But what happens when the recipient starts to get picky? Learn how to handle these moments.

Forgot your forum username or password? We'll email them to you.

May Prize
In two weeks I'll pick a random subscriber to win a $50 gift certificate to White Flower Farm, a wonderful garden-themed retailer in Connecticut. To put yourself in the running for the drawing, simply stay subscribed to this newsletter.

As always, thank you for your readership. Happy knitting, and I'll see you in the forums!
