Knitter's Review
October 20, 2005

good ingredients make the difference I'm always on the lookout for good staples. Not the ones you use to keep paper together, but the basic quality ingredients you use to assemble a unique and memorable project.

This week I think I've found one in the form of Valley Yarns Berkshire, a single-ply wool/alpaca blend that comes in 35 colors.

The catch? You can only find it in one store. We see if Berkshire is worth the trip.

In the Boutique: Year in Yarn
I'm excited to announce that the Knitter's Review 2006 Year in Yarn calendar has arrived! This compact wall calendar contains 12 evocative images and thoughts to carry us through the new year as one collective fiber family. This is its fourth year, and I hope you like it!

In the Forums: Bizarre Biases?
We all have perfectly legitimate dislikes, but one member wants to know more about our small, unjustifiable pet knitting peeves.

A New Kid in Town
A new knitting magazine hit the stands this week. It's called Knitscene and it comes to us from the folks at Interweave Press. The biannual magazine takes a fresh, younger approach to knitting and crochet but fortunately—based on this first issue—not at the expense of intelligence or subtlety. I counted 44 varied projects total, 11 of which can be found (free) on the magazine's Web site. Take a look and see what you think.

As always, I thank you for your readership and support. Happy knitting, and I'll see you in the forums,
