Knitter's Review
August 23, 2007 Some call it "clown barf." You know what I'm talking about—the hand-dyed yarns that look like a fully decorated Christmas tree that went through a shredder. Some of these super-colorful skeins work up into magic, others into a muddled mess. But increasing numbers of small-scale boutique hand-dyers are exploring the concept of the semisolid—a yarn that's technically one color but created from layer upon layer of subtle gradation, shadow, and nuance. I love these yarns, especially for socks. This week I asked Jane Cochran to design us a pattern expressly for semisolids and, in particular, for one extra special yarn. Jane's Hedgerow Socks pattern and my list of other favorite semisolid yarns are this week's focus. KR Retreat Update In the Forums: Greatest Hits Forgot your forum username or password?
