Knitter's Review
September 6, 2012 Few countries have as prominent or distinct a knitting culture as Iceland. When my grandparents traveled to this island country years ago, my grandma immediately fell in love with Icelandic yarn. It wasn't tightly twisted like the yarns she was used to—in fact it was barely spun at all. She brought home a whole suitcase of yarn and proceeded to knit sweaters for herself and everyone dear to her. In just a few weeks I'll board a plane for Iceland, bringing my grandma's favorite cardigan back to the country of its origins. Please join me in a monthlong celebration of all things Iceland, beginning with a look at the distinct yarn that captivated my grandma so many years ago: Lopi.
