Knitter's Review
July 18, 2013
community

My favorite thing about knitting may not be the knitting at all, nor the yarn or patterns or needles. My favorite thing about knitting is the community it brings together. No matter where you are in the world, if you're a knitter, you need never be alone.

Twelve years ago, I invited Knitter's Review readers to join me at a small Virginia inn. The connections were instant and profound. We did it again the next year, and more people came. The following year, even more people came, and so it went.

The event has endured. This November, I invite you to join me for our 12th annual Knitter's Review Retreat. It takes place in the lakeside town of Canandaigua, New York. This year's theme is longevity—physical, creative, and inspirational. We are lucky enough to be joined by Norah Gaughan, Amy Herzog, Gail Callahan, and Carson Demers, with a bonus presentation by Barbara Parry, a swashbuckling Great White Bale extravaganza, and a special marketplace appearance by Brooklyn Tweed.

All the details are here, and registration will take place on Friday, August 2nd at 12 noon EST. I do hope you'll join me.

Getting On the Wagon
Ron and Theresa Miskin want to do something extraordinary with their Buffalo Gold yarns: They want to take them on the road, literally. They're currently raising funds to go toward transforming a used van into a roaming Buffalo Gold yarn store, complete with dye facilities. Imagine picking your yarn, choosing your colorways, and getting the yarn while you wait. What'll they think of next?

Upcoming Events
Head across the pond to Bedford, in the UK, where Fibre-East 2013 is set to take place at the Redborne Community College in Ampthill. The vendor list reads like a who's who of British wool, including Blacker Yarns, John Arbon Textiles, and the Shetland Sheep Society.

In the Forums: Foul Fibers?
Polyester is not known for its breathability, nor are its synthetic cousins acrylic or nylon. When the weather turns hot (as it's been here in Maine lately), do you find polyester clothes can react a little, um, negatively to perspiration? I'll let Anna explain.

As ever, I thank you for letting me be a part of your knitting life.

I'll talk to you again on August 1!
