For 30 years Halcyon Yarn has been a beloved road trip for knitters in the New England area. Located in a vast warehouse in Bath, Maine, Halcyon Yarn is a fiber shop for serious spinners, weavers, felters, textile artists, and, lest we forget, knitters.
More for the Masses!
Until recently, you could only shop at Halcyon by mail order, phone, or store visit. Their print catalog is still exquisite, but you can now order online as well.
Inventory
Where yarns are concerned, Halcyon carries all the well-respected names, sucn as Classic Elite, Harrisville, Jagger, Peace Fleece, Brown Sheep, and K1C2. But you'll also find some excellent Halcyon exclusives as well. Yarns come in skeins and on cones, which is particularly compelling if you're a machine knitter. You'll also find a huge assortment of fibers for spinning.
Halcyon offers all the top names in equipment, from Schact looms to Ashford spinning wheels, as well as harder-to-find Navajo looms, niddy noddies, yarn tufters, and fiber dyes.
Still in Development
Halcyon is almost done adding photos and color cards to the yarn listings, but you still might come across a few that haven't been completed yet. Generally you get an amazing amount of technical detail about the yarns, as well as nicely written descriptions and vivid color photographs.
The actual ordering mechanism is straightforward. You select the quantity of yarn, choose the color from a dropdown list, review your shopping cart, and check out using their secure credit card processing engine. All in all, everything works well.
