a wise owl surveys her yarn

Can we talk about knots for a minute?

Ever since my first pair of colorwork socks fell apart because of a poorly formed knot in the cuff, I've been anti-knot. My opinion has been that no matter how you form them, knots will always find a way to wiggle free and create sad, gaping holes in your beautiful projects.

But the truth is: There's a knot for every occasion, including knitting. I'm going to show you a simple, sturdy, and discreet fisherman's knot that may well transform your relationship with endings and beginnings.

Coming Up
The Australian Sheep & Wool Show is this weekend at the Prince of Wales Fairgrounds in Bendigo, Victoria! This is it, the real deal, the biggest of its kind, going strong since 1877. While I can't be there, my Australian correspondent Kylie Gusset is—and she'll tell us all about it in the next newsletter.

Meanwhile, July 23-27, the summer Knit & Crochet Show and CGOA-TKGA Conference will take place at the Radisson Hotel in Manchester, New Hampshire. The weekend of the 26th-27th in Ampthill, Bedford, in the United Kingdom, the very promising Fibre East takes place at the Redborne Community College. These and hundreds more can be found on our calendar of upcoming events.

Swatch Talk
What's the purpose of swatching, anyway? Is it for gauge, or for something deeper? We're discussing the answers over at my Know Your Yarn class on Craftsy. Here's $15 off the class in case you're interested. See you there!

In the Forums: Road Tripping
Robinstephanie recently started using Ravelry's stash management tools for her spinning fiber. That worked out well, but now it's time for her yarn stash and she's not so sure it'll be worth it. Should she?

As always, I thank you for letting me be a part of your knitting life.

We'll talk again on July 31st!
